With winter well and truly behind us I’m starting to get very itchy feet for it won’t be long before the warm blue water’s start making there way down the coast bringing with it all the bait fish and all the predators like MARLIN along with all the other pelagics.
I’ve started heading more regularly now and try to get out a couple of times a week, weather permitting.
On a recent trip I headed out off Gerringong and went straight out to my favorite snapper spot about 3 1/2km’s out.
Didn’t have any bait so just had soft plastic’s with a 16oz jig head. After getting to my mark I already had plotted in my Humminbird fishinder, I threw out my sea anchor as there was a slight breeze.
Dropped the soft bait over and let it sink down, as it was near the bottom a nice fish has grabbed it, I quickly flicked the bale arm over on my shimano stradic and had a solid hook up. After a few good runs and head shakes I eventually had my first snapper in the boat. Two more cast with the same soft plastic and guess what two more snapper all about 3 to 3.5kg. Not bad for 3 cast wish fishing was always like this.
Fourth cast another hit but ended up loosing it. Fished for another hour before the wind got up but no more hits. Headed back in with some nice fish to feed the family for a while.
My Rig used:
- T-curve rod Stradic 2500
- 6kg Power Pro braid
- 8kg flourocarbon leader going straight onto
- Small Gamakatsu hyper snap swivel
- Soft bait
